Achieving greatness boils down to one simple formula:

Doing Something You Are Inherently Good at, Which Adds Value to the Lives of Others and For Which You Have a Passion.

Innate Talent

Innate talent is something that comes easy to you. It is something you do better than others.

Value

When whatever you do adds value to the lives of others, they will gladly pay you a premium for any service or product you provide which improves their lives in some way.

Passion

When you love what you do, you happily devote every available waking moment to doing that which makes your heart sing. Those who find their passion in life become expert in what they do. They devote the most time to their careers and, as a result, become the best at what they do.

All of those deca-millionaires/billionaires you read about in the newspapers, or on the Internet, or listen to on the radio or in podcasts or whose interviews you watch on TV or some Internet video, have achieved enormous success by following this formula for greatness.

  1. Please Can you have a a passion for something you are not good at?

    • Yes. Innate talent, when discovered at an early age, can give you a slight edge over the competition. This is why I am a very vocal advocate for the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. Through the badge process, scouts are able to experiment with diverse activities, exposing them to their otherwise hidden talents and passions.

But what really separates the great from the not so great, is deliberate practice. Read “Talent is Overrated”, by Geoff Colvin for more about this.

Finding your passion or discovering your innate talent sets you apart from everyone else.

  2. I watched Susan’s ted talk and heard her on the school of greatness podcast started her on rich roll but it was really a lot of repetition from the school of greatness episode anyway, I really do lately try to sit with all my emotions and let myself feel them.. if I’m sad, let myself feel it and cry rather than suppress it, etc. Love the card the boys got you about 5 years ago, I may have chosen coffee, but now it’s definitely wine for the win!!!
