Most tend to think of habits as either good or bad behaviors. But, there are actually habits that are non-behaviors, or what I call Do-Nothing Habits:

  • Watching TV is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Spending time on Facebook is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Watching YouTube videos for recreation is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Reading romance novels or similar fictional books is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Playing video games is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Watching movies is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Snapchat and Instagram are Do-Nothing Habits.
  • Constantly checking email is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Surfing the Internet is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Frequenting bars is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Talking on the phone with friends is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Worrying is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Gossiping is a Do-Nothing Habit.
  • Watching sporting activities is a Do-Nothing Habit.

Do-Nothing habits rob you of your time. If not kept in check, meaning if not done in moderation, Do-Nothing Habits become barriers that stand between you and success.

Awareness of your habits is the key to changing them. Become aware of your Do-Nothing Habits. For one week track how much time you spend on your Do-Nothing Habits.
