Does your work inspire you or is it drudgery. If it’s drudgery, you’re in good company, unfortunately. According to a 2012 survey conducted by “Big 4” accounting firm Deloitte, 80% of those surveyed did not like their jobs. In another survey conducted by Gallup in 2013, 63% of the 230,000 employees in the survey said they were unhappy with their jobs.
The vast majority do not like what they do for a living. As a result they feel imprisoned by their jobs. They are what I call salary junkies and wage slaves. You work because you have to. You fantasize about doing something you love. A few brave souls, less than 1%, actually quit their jobs to start a business.
A 2010 Gallup poll reported that there were only 6 million businesses in the United States with one or more employees. Of those, 3.8 million have four or fewer employees — mom and pop shops who were trying to build a new life for themselves and their families.
Is it any wonder why there are so few self-made millionaires? In my Rich Habits study, 76% were self-made millionaires. Most of these were those less than 1% brave souls who eventually quit their jobs to pursue some business they were building up over the years part-time, while still a salary junkie.
If you want to become wealthy you need to create multiple streams of income. Sixty-five percent in my study had three or more streams of income. Start building something on the side today. Passion is the key that unlocks the door to becoming a self-made millionaire. Experiment with different side hobbies or side businesses until you find something that you love and are passionate about. It takes time, but if you find something you are passionate about you will stick to it. Passion creates persistence and persistence eventually creates good luck.
