How would you like to add  20 or more years to your life expectancy? How about never having to worry about heart disease? Or, how about reducing your risk of cancer by as much as 50%? Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? It’s not. The latest science on longevity very likely discovered the secret to the Fountain of Youth. Not only that, they have found that just by slightly altering your habits, behaviors and lifestyle, you can eliminate chronic disease and cancer.

As many of you know, I have become a sought after expert on habits, successful living and wealth creation by virtue of studying the habits of rich and poor people these past eleven years. Oftentimes my research takes me down rabbit holes I never imagined myself in. The science of longevity is one of those rabbit holes. Longevity and habits, through various studies and research I will soon share with you, are joined at the hip. This new science is causing the trailblazers involved in it to question the actual life expectancy limits of human beings. They are considering all sorts of new future realities that are game changers. The path that the latest scientific breakthroughs on longevity are taking us could very well see humans live far beyond 100 years of age. Let’s get into some of the science on this.

Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn, in 2009, was awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering telomerase. Telomerase is an enzyme that rebuilds telomeres. Telomeres are tiny caps at the end of each chromosome (each individual has 46 chromosomes). These telomeres keep the DNA within each cell from fraying and unraveling. Every time a cell divides, telomeres have a tendency to get shorter and shorter. When they are gone, cells die. When cells die, they stop reproducing. We call that aging.

Her group discovered the enzyme telomerase by studying the roots in the bristlecone pine tree. These trees live 4,800 years. The reason they live so long is due to the existence of telomerase. Telomerase rebuilds and lengthens the telomeres at the end of each chromosome, thus extending the life of each cell.

She and her group found that humans also possess telomerase. What they also found was that good eating habits and aerobic exercise can increase the presence of telomerase inside each cell. This is an important discovery because what Dr. Blackburn essentially discovered was the fountain of youth!

In various studies conducted by Dr. Blackburn, in collaboration with other scientists and doctors, they found that the simple act of switching to a plant-based diet and 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise can increase the presence of telomerase and actually reverse the aging process. They also found that such a diet and exercise regimen can reverse prostate cancer and breast cancer. One study found that a mere 2% increase in plant protein reduced the incidence of cancer by 23%.

There is a misconception that the reason diseases seem to run in families is because we inherit certain genes from our parents and that dictates our fate. Not true. What we inherit from our parents is habits. Diets run in families. Exercise habits run in families  Your diet and exercise habits can turn on or turn off, or turn up or down, certain genes that affect your health. You can actually eat and exercise your way to clean arteries, lower cancer rates, lower blood sugar and minimize a whole host of other diseases.

In short, your eating and exercise habits increase or decrease your life expectancy. If you want to live 20 years longer you need to change your diet and exercise habits. Eating the right foods, coupled with 30 minutes a day of cardio (running, jogging, walking, biking, etc.), will reverse the aging process, extending your life by many years.
