What to Do When You Hate Your Life

Does your life suck? When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you smile or do you feel like throwing up on the mirror?

If you’re like most, you are probably not happy with your life and have no idea what to do to alter your current circumstances. You feel lost and helpless.

So, what can you do? How do you even begin the process of altering your current circumstances?

You can do one of two things: get rid of your mirror or re-write your life script.

When you re-write your life script, you are actually creating a blueprint of the life you desire.

And here’s the most amazing thing about creating a blueprint for your life – it will automatically set in motion the changes that must occur in order for you to live the life of your dreams. I call this process Dream-Setting.

You probably never heard of Dream-Setting before. Dream-Setting is the springboard for creating the life you desire. Dream-Setting lays the foundation for your new life. Dream-Setting is the act of clearly defining your life and the dreams that make that life possible.

Here’s the process:
Step One – Ask yourself what you want your ideal life to be ten, fifteen or twenty years out. Then write down every detail of your ideal future life. Be very specific in the details: the income you earn, the house you live in, the boat you own, the car you drive, the money you’ve accumulated, etc. This script of your ideal life will become the blueprint by which you construct your new life.

Step Two – Use this script as a springboard for identifying each one of your dreams. On a separate piece of paper make a bullet point list of each one of the details that represent your ideal life. These would be the income you earn, the house you live in, the boat your own, etc. Each one of these details represents a dream.

Read your script at least once a week. This activates a part of the brain known as the subconscious, or old brain (brain stem and limbic system). Your old brain is the most powerful part of the brain. It has been around millions of years longer than the conscious part of your brain, also known as the conscious brain or new brain (neocortex).

During sleep, your new brain is fed with ideas, suggestions and inspired thoughts from your old brain. This offline communication will pull and push you into taking certain action. At first you will not understand why you feel compelled to take such action, which reveals itself through inspiration and intuition. All you need to do is trust the process. Your old brain knows exactly what needs to be done. It will direct your new brain on what action it needs you to take.

As you begin to act on this inspiration and intuition, your true calling in life will emerge. People and opportunities will show up, seemingly out of thin air, to help you and guide you to where you need to go in life. Go with it. Don’t question it.

As you take action your life will begin to change. It takes time. Many years, in fact. But your life will change. And for the better.

FYI, in my book, Change Your Habits, Change Your Life, I get into much more detail, but the above process should be enough to help get your life back on track.

  1. I really like this activity. I am going to write it on my to do list. Thank you for sharing.

  2. If there s no way you can stay, that s fine, too. Again, at least you know. Don t quit your job yet though, regardless of how much you hate it. It s easier to find a job when you have a job and you probably won t be eligible for unemployment if you quit.

  3. Amazing blog and videos- just what I needed! Thank you!
